  • CHICADO V

1950. Chicado V was going great guns when she pulled up lame, never to run again. In the breeding pen, though her name has been immortalized by the pounding hoofs of a succession of superlative offspring. Near as I recall she’s produced five Top AAA sprinters, plus several AAAs and one begetter that never set hoof on a track – Triple Chick.

  • LEO (AQHA  )  "Leo was a speed horse and one of the all-time great sires.   He sired athletic ability as well as speed."

A legendary Quarter Horse and sire. 14.2 hands, a fine cowhorse with a wonderful disposition, and a track record setter. Very fast horse, losing only two matched races from 22 starts. Bud Warren said Leo "didn't know when to say quit." Became one of the all-time great sires and broodmare sires. His sons and daughters exc4elled on the track and in the show ring. Best remembered as a broodmare sire, however. There's a very long list of his daughters who became outstanding producers. They produced seven Supreme Champions (including Milk River x Custus Rastus, Fairbars x Three Bars, Sugar Rocket x Rocket Bar, Kid Meyers x Three Bars. Died in 1967 at age 27.

In the early years of the American Quarter Horse industry, Leo was known primarily as a sizzling speed horse. Later, he gained a hefty reputation of being a leading sire. Both his sons and daughters excelled on the track and in the show ring. The many titles won by Leo's offspring proved he not only sired speed, but also athletic ability, including 24 AQHA Champions, 33 Performance Registers of Merit, 211 Race Registers of Merit, four Superior Halter Awards, two Superior Performance Awards, eight Superior Race Awards, one Supreme Champion and four Racing World Champions. These traits were passed down from generation to generation and many of Leo's sons and daughters became leading producers of quality foals. Although no one knows for sure, Leo reportedly won 20 of 22 races in his career but he will most be remembered for his outstanding offspring which have strengthened the American Quarter Horse industry.

The first horse to become an APHA Champion was the 1964 dun overo stallion
Yellow Mount. Sired by a Quarter Horse and out of Lady Yellow Jacket, the
APHA's Lifetime Leading Dam of World Champions, Yellow Mount greatly
influenced the Paint breed. Of the 39 horses who have earned the title of APHA
Supreme Champion, one is Yellow Mount and four are his progeny.

For years Yellow Mount was considered the "Paint Horse Model" and "Symbol
of the Breed". He was the 1st Champion of the APHA, the 1st Running Supreme
Champion, stood National Champion 8 times, was a Superior Halter Horse and
earned ROM's in Racing, Western Pleasure, Calf Roping, Reining and Barrel
    Racing.
Yellow Mount's accomplishments alone made him an outstanding individual,
but his impact as a sire made him a legend. Yellow Mount is an all-time Leading
    Sire. He produced:
    26 APHA Champions
    32 Superior Event Horses
    11 National Champions
    2 Superior All-Arounds
    14 Reserve National Champions
     4 Supreme Champions

    79 ROM's
    1 Versatility

Yellow Mount died in 1990, but his legacy will live for as long as there are Paint Horses.

Yellow Mount may have been the best known Paint Horse stallion in the world.
Mr. and Mrs. Williamson, the owners of Yellow Mount, commissioned a well
known western artist, Orren Mixer to do a painting of Yellow Mount with his
mares and foals. Reproductions of this painting were used by the APHA for
promotion of the breed and several thousand were sent out all over the world.

If Yellow Mount had been human, he'd have been John Wayne. ~ Marion Badger

  • Zippos Sensation - APHA 255564 (Zippo Pine Bar x Satin N Lace)
A fabulous horse that is also a World Champion and has produced World Champions and Honor Roll horses.
Zippos Sensation is sired by the great stallion Zippo Pine Bar and out of Satin N Lace, APHA Champion, Earning Superiors in  Halter, Western Pleasure and Trail. Satin N Lace is also a Honor Roll Western Pleasure Mare.  The 14-year- old sorrel overo stallion is the American Paint Horse Association's (APHA) leading sire of performance winners and point-earning performance horses. The stallion began passing on his winning traits early, with his first get born when he was a 3-year old. From that first crop came APHA World Champion Brightly Zippo "a sorrel overo gelding out of Morning Whispers that excelled in Western pleasure. Brightly Zippo is still showing today, recently winning a Reserve World Championship in 2007 with Youth exhibitor Laurel Hanlon of Elizabeth, Colorado, aboard.
To date, Zippo's foals have earned 75 world and reserve championship titles, as well as having placed on APHA's Honor Roll. In addition, they have made him a six-time leading sire of money-earning foals through the association's Breeders Trust program.
